AEW star and former AEW Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa returned to Houston ahead of AEW Dynamite and Collision, taking time to sit down with Viva Houston for an exclusive interview discussing her wrestling journey, her growing role in CMLL, competing around the world, and the city she proudly calls home.
Fresh off a trip from Mexico City, Thunder Rosa arrived in Houston ready for a busy night of action inside the ring.
“We came straight from Mexico City to Houston. We have a double show today with Dynamite and Collision, and we’re going to give it everything we’ve got,” Thunder Rosa said.
Houston Holds a Special Place in Thunder Rosa’s Heart
While Thunder Rosa has competed across the globe, Houston remains one of the most important cities in her career.
The Mexican wrestling star revealed that Texas played a major role in helping her realize professional wrestling was her true passion.
“Houston has always welcomed me with so much energy. The fans love wrestling, and it’s always beautiful for me to come back,” she explained.
Her connection to the city goes beyond wrestling. Thunder Rosa is also a passionate Houston sports fan and proudly supports the Houston Texans.
“I love Houston. I’m a huge Texans fan.”
From AEW Champion to International Superstar
Thunder Rosa reflected on her six-year journey with AEW and the growth of the company’s women’s division.
She was instrumental in helping build the division during AEW’s early years and reached the top of the mountain when she captured the AEW Women’s World Championship in a memorable steel cage match in San Antonio.
Since then, her career has taken her across the globe.
Thunder Rosa has wrestled in Japan, Mexico, Canada, England, and throughout the United States while continuing to establish herself as one of the most respected female wrestlers in the world.
“It has been a lot of hard work, but I’ve enjoyed every minute of it,” she said.
CMLL Has Opened a New Chapter
In addition to her AEW success, Thunder Rosa has embraced a new challenge in Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), one of Mexico’s most historic wrestling promotions.
She recently competed during the Arena Coliseo anniversary celebration, describing it as one of the most emotional moments of her career.
“The arena was completely sold out. Looking up and seeing thousands of people was something I can’t even describe,” Thunder Rosa said.
The event carried special significance because women were once prohibited from competing inside Arena Coliseo. Today, the CMLL Amazons division has become one of the promotion’s biggest attractions.
Helping Open Doors for the Next Generation
One of Thunder Rosa’s biggest passions is helping create opportunities for future generations of female wrestlers.
She praised the growing partnership between AEW, CMLL, and international promotions such as Stardom, highlighting the increasing number of talented women receiving opportunities on major platforms.
“We’re bringing more women from different companies and giving them opportunities to shine,” she said.
Thunder Rosa specifically mentioned several rising stars who are now making names for themselves internationally after years of development.
Lessons Learned in Japan
Thunder Rosa also discussed her time wrestling in Japan, which she considers one of the most important periods of her career.
The experience was physically demanding and mentally challenging, but it transformed her into a more complete performer.
“It was very difficult, but I learned so much. If you didn’t understand the style, you had to learn quickly,” she recalled.
She credits her Japanese experience with helping shape the wrestler fans see today.
“When I came back, I was a completely different wrestler.”
More Than Just Wrestling
Outside the ring, Thunder Rosa has built a strong presence on social media, regularly interacting with fans and documenting her daily life.
She believes maintaining that connection is essential in modern sports entertainment.
“You have to build relationships with your fans and new audiences. You never know who might discover you online,” she explained.
Her authenticity and dedication have helped her grow one of the most loyal fanbases in women’s wrestling.
What’s Next for Thunder Rosa?
While continuing to compete in AEW and CMLL, Thunder Rosa remains focused on chasing more championships and creating new opportunities.
She expressed interest in future championship opportunities and continuing her mission of helping elevate women’s wrestling on a global scale.
At this stage of her career, Thunder Rosa is balancing experience, leadership, and ambition while remaining one of the most recognizable Mexican stars in professional wrestling.
For Houston wrestling fans, her return is always special.
And for Thunder Rosa, Houston will always feel like home.
