Riley Green Opens 2026 Houston Rodeo with Powerful Performance at NRG Stadium

The 2026 edition of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo kicked off in a big way on Monday, March 2, as country star Riley Green took the stage at NRG Stadium in front of 59,250 fans. Known for his blend of traditional country storytelling and modern country sound, Green delivered a performance that set the tone for one of Houston’s biggest annual events.

Green opened his set shortly after 9:20 p.m. with the song “Different ‘Round Here,” even using a duck call before launching into the performance, drawing cheers from the massive crowd. The Alabama native, who once played college football before pursuing music, has built a strong following with songs that reflect small-town life, country pride, and personal storytelling. His presence on the RodeoHouston stage showed why he continues to grow as one of country music’s rising stars.

Throughout the night, Green mixed fan favorites with meaningful tributes. One of the standout moments came when he honored fellow country artist Jamey Johnson with a cover of the classic song “In Color.” Green has often spoken about Johnson’s influence on his career, and the tribute resonated strongly with the audience. The show also included his hit duet “You Look Like You Love Me,” originally recorded with Ella Langley, which had fans singing along throughout the stadium.

Green also paid tribute to country legend Toby Keith with a medley that included “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue,” bringing patriotic energy to the Houston crowd. Later in the show, he slowed things down with acoustic performances of “Jesus Saves” and “Don’t Mind If I Do,” showing another side of his musical style and connection with the audience.

One of the most emotional moments of the night came when Green performed his triple-platinum hit “I Wish Grandpas Never Died.” As thousands of fans held up their phones with lights shining across the stadium, the moment created a powerful atmosphere inside NRG Stadium.

Green closed the night in memorable fashion with a performance of “Dixieland Delight,” leaving the stadium in a Ford pickup as the crowd continued cheering. It was a fitting end to a night that successfully launched the 2026 Houston Rodeo and reminded fans why RodeoHouston remains one of the biggest live music events in the country.

For Houston fans, the opening night performance was more than just a concert—it was the start of another exciting Rodeo season filled with music, culture, and unforgettable moments.
